DISCARD TO DISTINCT: Celebrating National Thrift Shop Day in Style

Goodwill celebrated National Thrift Shop Day last month with fashion influencer Tanesha Brown, the personal stylist and blogger behind Discard to Distinct. Brown appeared at our Williamsburg store to show shoppers how to pull together terrific outfits and gave personalized style advice while celebrating the joy of thrift store shopping. Shoppers had such a great experience interacting with and learning from Brown that we’ve invited her for future engagements at other Goodwill stores.

This unique, in-store event attracted new shoppers to the store, with one mother-daughter duo travelling over 45 minutes for the opportunity to meet Brown and gain some insider-fashion tips.

Goodwill’s partnership with Brown grew organically this year after she started tagging the organization in her ‘thrifted styles’ online.  We invited her for a tour of our Richmond Support Center where she saw our flagship Community Employment Center, workforce development training programs in action and our extensive recycling operations. “It was truly a pleasure to tour the Center and discuss all the amazing things the Goodwill is doing to help people in our communities, near and far,” said Brown. “I was a believer in Goodwill before but, I’m SOLD OUT after today.”

Laura Faison, Goodwill’s creative services manager, observed that Brown was a natural fit with Goodwill. “We were thrilled when Tanesha approached us about working together for National Thrift Shop Day.  Her ability to pull incredible outfits together from the thousands of items on our sales floor is nothing short of magic, and we’re excited to bring her style and expertise to more of our shoppers soon.”
