Goodwill And Chesterfield County Public Schools Partner Host Record-Breaking Annual Denim Drive

Three local schools awarded cash prizes for donation efforts

Local students and staff at Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) celebrated the season of giving with its annual Denim Drive in support of Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia. This year’s drive achieved an unprecedented milestone by collecting a remarkable 4,202 pieces of denim.

The annual Denim Drive promotes sustainability by donating gently-used denim and also provides invaluable support to Goodwill’s mission of helping people help themselves through the power of work.

Local Chesterfield County schools engaged in a friendly competition to determine who could contribute the most items, with the top schools from each level – elementary, middle and high school – receiving a cash prize at the CCPS board meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The winning schools of the 2023 Chesterfield County Denim Drive are:

  • Old Hundred Elementary School
  • Tomahawk Creek Middle School
  • Midlothian High School

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all of the students and staff who contributed to the success of the Denim Drive,” Goodwill Donor Development Manager Tammy McCain said. “The spirit of giving displayed by each one of these schools will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on our community through Goodwill’s job training services.”

Donations made to Goodwill play a crucial role in environmental conservation. In 2022, Goodwill’s salvage and recycling operations kept nearly 25 million pounds of materials out of area landfills. The donations also advance Goodwill’s job training services, which help those in need gain valuable skills for the workplace.
