GOODWILL EXPANDS ITS FOOTPRINT

In August, Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia expanded its footprint to include five counties and purchased two stores that formerly were part of Goodwill Industries of South Central Virginia, a separate entity which is now defunct. Goodwill also welcomed all 20 of the stores’ employees into its organization.

The five newly added counties include Brunswick, Mecklenburg, Lunenberg, Nottoway and Amelia, and the stores are in South Hill and Blackstone.

“We are in a strong position to serve these communities, offer a high-quality thrift shopping and donating experience, and provide learning and growth opportunities for our new associates,” said Bill Carlson, chief operating officer.

Goodwill opened a store in Emporia in June 2018, which is performing very well and helped Goodwill gain insights on operating in rural areas.

“Our vision is that all 36 of our stores should reflect their local communities, from the customer service of associates who live and work in those communities to the variety of donations each store carries,” said Carlson.
