Goodwill Earns Distinguished “Virginia Values Veterans” Certification

Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia received certification from the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Virginia Values Veterans (V3) program, joining more than 300 Virginia businesses and organizations recognized for their commitment of valuing and hiring veterans.

“Goodwill honors the contributions of veterans and their service to our country,” said Christy Roberson, vice president of people operations at Goodwill. “Veterans, including Guardsmen and Reservists, play an essential role in building a successful workforce, and many will be future leaders in our organization,” said Roberson.

Sponsored by the Governor of Virginia, V3 is an official Commonwealth of Virginia Program operated by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. The program helps employers implement nationally recognized best practices in recruiting, hiring, and retaining highly-skilled and dependable veterans. Certification lasts for five years.

Goodwill offers high-level leadership positions with competitive pay and benefits that can leverage the unique skills and expertise veterans hone during military service.

“We know veterans often have transferable skills that allow them to thrive in various fields, including analytics, asset protection, communication, information technology, logistics and risk management,” said Roberson. Goodwill also hires veterans for government contract positions, many of which are located on military bases where security clearance and integrity are highly valued.

To further assists veterans transitioning from military service to civilian life, Goodwill established a veterans resource group in 2017 to advocate for veterans’ interests within the organization and assist in recruiting, hiring, and retaining veterans. The group comprises participants from different military branches and divisions throughout the organization. It leads the organization’s onboarding process for newly hired veterans, communicates training and learning opportunities for veterans within the organization and hosts an annual Military Recognition Luncheon.
