Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia Celebrates #GivingTuesday on Nov. 27

This #GivingTuesday, Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia will celebrate by sharing stories that highlight how charitable giving can build brighter futures in our community.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. This year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27 and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.

Founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y – a community and cultural center in New York City — #GivingTuesday inspired millions of people to give back and support the local causes they believe in. Donations totaled more than $300 million to benefit a broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.

Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia will use #GivingTuesday funds to help people change their lives through the power of work. Goodwill’s 20 workforce development programs help people facing challenges to work get onto and up the career ladder in a wide variety of industries. From vocational services for individuals with disabilities to re-entry programs for those involved with the criminal justice system, the nonprofit provides all services at no charge to job seekers.
