Donations Go Farther Than You Think At Your Local Goodwill In Central And Coastal Virginia
May 20, 2021Nonprofit gladly accepts most donations and practices sustainability with recycling efforts
RICHMOND (May 19, 2021) – Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia (Goodwill), a nonprofit organization with a mission to help people help themselves through the power of work, strives to educate donors in Virginia about the donation process at its stores and the impact those donations have on the local community.
“At your local Goodwill in central and coastal Virginia, we appreciate all donations from our community,” Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia CEO Mark Barth said. “While there are some items we are unable to accept out of concern for the safety of our associates, donors and shoppers such as building materials, mattresses, gas heaters, gas-powered equipment, paint and chemicals, your donations of clothing and household items help support our mission.”
When someone donates to Goodwill, the donation is sorted at our attended donation centers and then saleable items are put onto the sales floor. If the items do not sale at the retail stores within the first few weeks, they are transported to and sold by the pound at Goodwill outlet stores providing a great resource for families to get the most bang for their buck. Additionally, large items such as furniture or office equipment are sold at Goodwill’s live general merchandise auction. The items sold at Goodwill stores, outlets and auction provides job training to Virginians.
“Goodwill provides job-readiness skills and paid on-the-job training to individuals in Central and Coastal Virginia through a variety of programs designed to make individuals career ready. As a driving force in workforce development, we work with community partners to meet job seekers where they are, and helps individuals facing obstacles to employment create pathways to long-term career success. Your donations help us do just that,” Barth continued.
Goodwill also has E-Recycle stores in Richmond and Hampton that carry a variety of electronic devices that go through a multi-step data cleaning and refurbishment process before making it to the sales floor. For items that cannot be refurbished, Goodwill has a nationwide partnership with Dell Inc. to safely break down the devices, protecting the environment from potentially harmful metals and chemicals.
