Celebrate Halloween at Home With Affordable Options at Goodwill

As the Halloween season nears and the COVID-19 pandemic looms, families are preparing to celebrate Halloween at home. From spooky costumes for all ages, Halloween décor and DIY items for in-home haunted houses, costumes and Zoom parties, Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia (Goodwill) offers affordable and sustainable ways to celebrate a non-traditional Halloween at home this month.

“Families will find this year’s Halloween more important than ever as it provides a sense of normalcy and something to look forward to amid a turbulent year for all,” Goodwill COO Bill Carlson said. “As families work to keep the fun alive and ensure the safety of their family and the community, our hope is that we can provide our shoppers with everything they’ll need to celebrate Halloween at home this month whether that’s small family gatherings, DIY haunted houses at home, virtual parties with family and friends or trick-or-treating around the house.”

Items available at Goodwill stores include full costumes, mix-and-match costume pieces such as witch hats, capes, glasses, etc., party and home décor and more. Oftentimes, families will donate children’s costumes to Goodwill at the end of the season so it can be likely that parents find full costumes that have only been worn once for a fraction of the cost.

“With many still living through the economic impacts of the pandemic, many may not be spending the money they typically would be on Halloween costumes and parties. Goodwill can be a cost-effective option while shopping upcycled items in our stores,” Carlson added.

Shoppers can feel safe at Goodwill stores with all employees in masks, touchless payments when possible, routine sanitation, plexiglass shields at the register and social distancing reminders throughout the store.

Shopping at Goodwill for Halloween not only helps save money, but also helps provide job training and placement services for those in the community through Goodwill’s mission to help people help themselves through the power of work.
