5 WAYS TO SHOP GOODWILL
November 14, 2019Did you know there’s more than one way to shop Goodwill? Read more to learn all the ways you can get your thrift-fix with Goodwill, all while helping to change lives through the power of work.
1. Retail Stores
Goodwill has 36 stores in central and coastal Virginia filled with affordable clothing and unique items. Donations at each store come from the surrounding neighborhoods, ensuring a wide variety of goods for you to choose from and that every store is different! Selections are rotated each week, adding more than 2,000 items to each sales floor daily.
“Color of the Week” sales, where items are marked down by 50 percent, as well as Goodwill’s everyday low prices give customers great deals all year round. If you’re in Richmond, don’t forget to visit the Carytown boutique, “Second Debut,” for specially selected vintage and high end name brand items.

2. Outlet Stores
Goodwill operates two outlet stores, one in Richmond and one in Hampton, Virginia. Outlets offer products at incredible value, selling goods by the pound rather than individually. Customers can search through bins of shoes, clothing, housewares and more to find bargains to suit the whole family!
3. E-Recycle stores
Last year Goodwill kept nearly a million pounds of electronics out of landfills and recycles devices for resale at our retail stores and our specialty E-Recycle stores in Richmond and Hampton. The two E-Recycle stores carry a variety of electronic devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets, iPads, LCD flat-screen televisions, smartphones, gaming consoles and video games.
Every donated device goes through a five-day refurbishment process before making it to the sales floor. Goodwill’s commitment to security sets it apart from other refurbishment retailers. Specially trained Goodwill associates remove data and personal information using a U.S. Department of Defense-grade program. Shoppers also enjoy a one-time courtesy virus wipe. If any device purchased from Goodwill gets a virus, Goodwill will wipe it and reinstall the operating system software at no cost.
Any donated electronics that cannot be refurbished are recycled in partnership with Dell’s nationwide Reconnect program. Devices are safely broken down, keeping harmful chemicals and metals out of our environment.

4. Auctions
For bargain thrill-seekers, Goodwill holds live auctions in Richmond every week, giving customers the opportunity to bid on thousands of items including bikes, furniture, toys and even the occasional car. Adults age 18 and older can register for $1 to preview items one hour before bidding starts. A professional auctioneer, Doug Sinclair of Sinclair & Associates, , speeds through over 200 lots at every auction, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.
Auctions are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m. Special antique and collectibles auctions are held on the first Friday of every month. Discover new treasures and experience the auctions for yourself at 6301 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, Virginia, 23225.
