In Memoriam: Alex Kay, Jr., Longtime Goodwill Board Member
August 13, 2018Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia mourns the recent passing of Alexander Kay, Jr., a longtime member of the Board of Directors and former president of the Board. He was affiliated in various volunteer capacities since 1984, most recently serving on the Advisory Board as a member of the Finance committee.
A retired Phillip Morris executive, Kay brought more than 45 years of business knowledge to Goodwill. In April 2018, Goodwill President and CEO Charles Layman and other Board members recognized Kay as a Board Member Emeritus.
“Alex had a sharp mind for the finance, even when he was in his late-80s,” said Helen Dow, vice president of finance for Goodwill. “His high standards for accuracy and fiscal prudence were unparalleled, and he inspired us to find the best solution for every challenge. At the heart of the matter, though, he cared deeply about serving others and our community.”
