As vice president of mission advancement, Andrea Butler oversees Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia’s marketing, communications and resource development to raise awareness of and support for its mission. She joined the organization in 2016.
Butler has more than 30 years of experience in strategic communications and fundraising for organizations ranging from nonprofits to start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. She served as public relations director for US Airways and the National Aquarium in Baltimore, working with consumer and business media, and also was vice president of public relations for Priceline.com, leading its successful launch. She has specialization in crisis communications.
After moving to Richmond in 2004, Butler established the first communications office for Virginia Commonwealth University’s Massey Cancer Center, and later headed fundraising and communications for nonprofits in affordable housing.
Butler earned a B.A. in journalism from James Madison University, and taught journalism as an adjunct professor at American University. She is a 2013 graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond, served on the Board of the Better Housing Coalition, and is a member of Impact 100. Butler is married to John “Jack” Butler, has two daughters and lives in Richmond.
