Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia (GCCVA) will open a new store and donation center, the Strawbridge Goodwill, at 2093 General Booth Blvd. in Virginia Beach on Thursday, July 13 at 9 a.m. Goodwill will offer giveaways and doors prizes for shoppers at this new location on July 13 and 14.

Goodwill’s newest retail location, on the corner of London Bridge Road and General Booth Boulevard, opens on Thursday, July 13th.

The new store will employ 22 individuals in retail and donated goods production positions. Starting wages for non-supervisory positions are $10/hour.

The newly renovated 16,000 square-foot store, a former Taylor’s Do it Center, is located across the street from the Strawbridge Marketplace. It features a convenient donation drive-up for those wishing to donate used goods.

“Thanks to the many donors who support Goodwill, this store will offer a robust and ever-changing inventory of unique products priced well below those of new goods,” said Bill Carlson, chief operating officer of GCCVA. “The community’s support literally helps to turn jeans into jobs.”

GCCVA has operated in Hampton Roads since 1925. As one of the nation’s first nonprofit social enterprises, Goodwill sells used goods at value-oriented prices to support programs for individuals who face challenges to employment. The Strawbridge Goodwill is GCCVA’s 17th in Hampton Roads and 5th in Virginia Beach.

GCCVA operates five Community Employment Centers that offer training programs and services, free of charge, to help job-seekers gain employment in the community.

Amenities and features of the new Goodwill include:

  • A well-appointed store with knowledgeable sales staff, dressing rooms, a return policy and a frequent donor discount shopping program.
  • At least 1,800 new (used) items of merchandise every day.
  • Prices often a fraction of the cost of new goods.
  • A convenient, covered drive-up donation drop-off area.

About GCCVA: As part of the nation’s largest non-profit community workforce organization, GCCVA serves nearly 18,000 individuals annually throughout 39 cities and counties. Established in Richmond in 1923, Goodwill is guided by the belief that work is the foundation for empowered individuals, stable families, and prosperous communities. Goodwill sells donated goods through 32 retail stores, two outlets and two electronic stores, and reinvests the revenue in programs that prepare and support individuals who face challenges to employment. Auctions, contract services and philanthropic gifts also help to support its mission.
