NEW AND IMPROVED GOODWILL IN WILLIAMSBURG
Store provides programs that helps individuals with disabilities
WILLIAMSBURG, VA –Goodwill opens the doors to its new retail store and donation center on Thursday, January 21st at 9 a.m. The newly renovated facility is a relocation site for Goodwill’s store, donation center and mission programs, currently operating at 1260 Richmond Road.
The new retail store and donation center sits at 1310 Richmond Road, directly across from the previous location on Monticello Avenue, next to Staples. Shoppers will find a bigger, brighter store full of merchandise that includes clothing for the whole family, electronics, toys, books, house wares, furniture, and unique home accents. Donors will also find a more convenient drive-up donation center for dropping off their gently-used items. Store and donation hours will be Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Goodwill’s more than 30 retail stores not only provide funding for its job training programs and career development services, they also provide vital training ground for individuals with obstacles to employment. The Williamsburg store is home to Goodwill’s Work Adjustment Training (WAT) program, which is one of its 20+ mission programs. “The WAT program, a partnership between Goodwill’s Vocational Services and the Department of Aging & Rehabilitative Services (DARS), works with individuals who have documented disabilities. The training enhances the participant’s skills development, tolerance for work, knowledge of workplace etiquette, and goals for competitive employment. In 2015 alone, 23 individuals successfully participated in WAT at the Williamsburg store. Our hope is to serve even more in the program at our new site” Veronica Hunter, Director of Vocational Services.
Visitors to this new Williamsburg Goodwill will find a store that is a cut above the thrift store stereotype, like:
- • A well-appointed store with a traditional retail atmosphere, knowledgeable sales staff, our return policy, and our frequent donor discount shopping program.
- • Competitive pricing with the average cost for adult clothing at $4.99.
- • Well organized, ever-changing merchandise as Goodwill re-stocks with at least 1,800 new items every day.
- • Great giveaways and door prizes during the first 2 days of the store opening.
