RICHMOND, VA — The goodChoice program, a unique community partnership developed by Goodwill Industries of Central and Coastal Virginia, has earned the agency a 2015 Goodwill Industries International Outstanding Family Strengthening Center of Excellence Award.
The Outstanding Family Strengthening Center of Excellence Award is sponsored in part by the Annie E. Casey Foundation to honor Goodwill® agencies that incorporate family financial stability strategies into their mission, vision and program offerings.
goodChoice was developed in response to the 2010 payday loan epidemic. Richmond-area nonprofit and business leaders took action to reach out and educate the community of the growing payday loan problem and to combat predatory lending practices. Today, goodChoice provides the community with alternatives to payday loans by providing a more holistic program, offering them robust financial education programs, financial service options, customized coaching and individualized assistance.
“We are honored to receive recognition for a program that brings so much good to our hard-working citizens and their families,” said Charles D. Layman, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Central and Coastal Virginia. “We will continue to ensure that our comprehensive, family-inclusive approach to economic self-sufficiency remains a critical part of our clients’ and associates’ successful work-life strategy.”
“The philosophy that families must thrive in order for their members to succeed at work is achieved through the goodChoice program,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “We are proud to be a family strengthening organization, and we congratulate Goodwill Industries of Central and Coastal Virginia for successfully addressing the unique needs of working families and becoming a 2015 Outstanding Family Strengthening Center of Excellence.”
Goodwill Industries of Central and Coastal Virginia was honored for its goodChoice program on Monday, April 27 during Goodwill’s annual spring conference in Colorado Springs, CO.
