Does Goodwill accept car donations in both Central Virginia and Hampton Roads?
Why should I donate a vehicle to Goodwill?
There are several reasons: convenience, a tax deduction, and knowing that your donation is helping to get people to work in central and coastal Virginia. You don’t have to haggle with car salespeople over trade-in values, plus we provide free towing from your location to ours.
What percentage of the proceeds from the sale of my vehicle will go to support Goodwill’s mission?
After Goodwill pays a flat fee for towing, title work and auction services, Goodwill receives the net revenue from the resale of every donated vehicle and that money helps to fund Goodwill’s job training and career development services in our local communities.
Is my vehicle donation tax deductible?
Yes! Goodwill is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Once your vehicle is resold through our auction partners, they will send you a written statement that lists the sale price of your vehicle. The sale price is the amount that you can take as a tax deduction. IRS guidelines for charitable contributions can be found at http://www.irs.gov/.
How will my vehicle be used?
Every vehicle donated will be turned over to our auction partners, National Charity Services, who will in turn sell the vehicles on our behalf.
Does my car have to be running to donate?
NO! WE TAKE EVERYTHING
What types of vehicles do you accept?
We accept all vehicles, along with motorcycles, RVs, campers and boats on trailers.
Do you provide a free home pickup service?
Yes, Monday through Friday. Call 1-866-233-8586 for more information.
I’ve heard that some for-profits companies are disguising themselves behind nonprofit names. How can I be sure that I’m donating my car to a legitimate charity?
We recommend you ask a lot of questions: Is the organization an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit? If they answer yes, ask for their federal identification number. Is the organization local? What impact does the organization have on the community? In addition, the Better Business Bureau can provide information to help you feel comfortable about the non-profit you are supporting.
