We believe that work is the foundation for empowered individuals, stable families, and prosperous communities.
Through donations to our stores, financial contributions, and contract services, we earn revenue to reinvest in the preparation and ongoing support to secure employment for anyone with challenges to work.
Goodwill is many things. We are a locally focused non-profit 501 c3 organization. We are a gently used goods retailer. We are a recycler, repurposing goods and keeping them out of our landfills. We are a solutions partner for employers. All of these definitions serve to support our most important role- as the leader in community workforce development.
Leader in community workforce development
Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia has been providing job seeker services and job skills training programs for individuals with challenges to work for over 90 years. We are guided by our mission to put individuals into sustainable employment and provide career paths for even greater success.
- Our community workforce integrates workforce development and job readiness with our staffing expertise to better understand business needs in our communities and match those needs with qualified candidates.
- For the employer, this means proactive support by understanding trends and resourcing needs, reduced recruiting and placement costs, and ongoing support with Goodwill as a long term partner.
- For the job seeker, Goodwill will meet you where you are, create a progression plan suited to your capabilities and provide continuous support along your career path.
- For our community, our workforce efforts lead to more productive citizens, engaged organizations, and stronger, more prosperous communities.
A locally focused non-profit
Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia (GCCVA) is part of a growing network of 164 Goodwill organizations throughout the world. Each Goodwill operates independently, with local staff and a local volunteer board of directors. This structure allows each organization to address the unique community workforce needs of the individuals and employers in their designated territory. GCCVA serves 39 cities and counties throughout Hampton Roads and Central Virginia.
A gently used goods retailer
A large part of our funding comes from our stores and donated goods operations. We operate 34 stores and outlets throughout central and coastal Virginia, as well as weekly auctions in Richmond. Our stores serve as an economic engine for our mission of putting people to work in the community , but they also provide work experience for some of our job seekers and often, permanent employment. As a retailer, we process over 1.2 million donations and 2.8 million transactions at our stores annually.
Our operation is based on reuse and recycling. We keep over 37 million pounds of textiles, household items, and e-waste out of area landfills every year.
A solutions partner for employers
In addition to our workforce solutions for employers, we also offer temporary staffing, janitorial services, e-recycling resources and document destruction for hundreds of area businesses every year.
