Powhatan, VA – Goodwill is expanding its territory to Powhatan. On September 10h at 9 a.m., the non-profit will unveil its first retail store in Powhatan; and a first-of-its-kind in Goodwill’s territory.
The new, 15,000-square foot retail store and donation center is located at 1885 Stavemill Road. The store is 99% “American-made”, which means the construction of the building followed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (AARA) standards, which helps create and keep jobs in the United Sates.
Like all Goodwill networks across the U.S. and Canada, Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia Inc., operates and delivers its mission programs and services locally to help individuals with obstacles to employment get to work and reach their highest level of self-sufficiency.
“With each new store location, we look for ways to increase our mission impact in the communities where we build, operate and deliver job programs and services. We hired Powhatan county residents, used contractors whose businesses were based in Powhatan, and followed ARRA government guidelines to build a Goodwill store that is 99% American-made. Retail stores are vital to our mission delivery of putting people to work and keeping focused on the needs of the local community.,” says Bill Carlson, vice president of donated goods.
Goodwill’s newest store opening means 20+ new jobs in Powhatan, and more funding for its mission. Goodwill operates multiple job training and career development programs that help individuals with obstacles to employment get the training, work experience, and job opportunities they need to strengthen themselves, their families and their communities.
